About the Council

The Campus Alberta Quality Council is an arms-length quality assurance agency that makes recommendations to the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology on applications from post-secondary institutions wishing to offer new degree programs in Alberta under the terms of the Post-secondary Learning Act, 2003 and the Programs of Study Regulation (91/2009). Other than degrees in divinity, all degree programs offered in Alberta, including degrees offered by non-resident institutions, must be approved by the Minister.

In fulfillment of its mandate, the Council determines the criteria and procedures for its reviews and strikes organizational and program review teams. The Council’s criteria and procedures are available on this Web site.

The Council is committed to ensuring the national and international recognition of Alberta’s degrees, and works closely with other provinces in pan-Canadian quality assurance initiatives. It is a member of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE).
