Council Membership

The Campus Alberta Quality Council consists of 11 members, including a Chair, who are appointed by the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology.  

The normal term of office for members is three years, and members may be reappointed.   

Chair

Dr. Ron Bond (Term: Thursday, July 13, 2006 to Sunday, July 12, 2009), is currently Provost and Vice-President (Academic) Emeritus at the University of Calgary and is a former Professor of English and Dean of Humanities there. He has served on a number of national committees.

Members of the Council

Dr. Patricia Clements (Term: July 28, 2008 to July 27, 2011), is Professor Emeritus of English and former Dean of Arts at the University of Alberta. She is a former President of the Humanities and Social Sciences Federation of Canada, and has served on the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Dr. Robert Lockwood (Term: July 24, 2007 to July 23, 2010), has a long history of program development with Olds College, the University of Saskatchewan, Agriculture Canada, and Saskatchewan Agriculture. Dr. Lockwood has recently retired from Olds College where he has held several positions including eleven years as Vice President (Academic).

Dr. Peter Mahaffy (Term: July 13, 2009 to July 12, 2012), is Professor of Chemistry at The King's University College, co-director of the King's Center for Visualization in Science, and Chair of the Chemistry Education Committee of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.  He is widely published, a recipient of the National 3M Teaching Award as well as NSERC, CFI, and NSF funding, and has done a considerable amount of international work.  He is a past member of the Private Colleges Accreditation Board.

Dr. Peter Meekison (Term: July 2, 2007 to July 1, 2010), is a University Professor Emeritus, former Chair of the department of Political Science, former Balzberg Chair in Constitutional Law, and previous Vice-President (Academic) at the University of Alberta. He is an adjunct professor of Political Science at the University of Victoria.

Dr. Greg Moran (Term: July 28, 2008 to July 27, 2011), is a professor of Psychology at the University of Western Ontario.  He has served as Western's Chair of Psychology, Dean of Graduate Studies, and Provost and Vice-President (Academic).  He is a former Chair of the Ontario Council of Academic Vice-Presidents and a consultant to the Council of Ontario Universities and the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario.

Dr. Leo Mos (Term: July 13, 2009 to July 12, 2012), is a professor of Psychology and Linguistics at the University of Alberta, has served as Chair of The King's University College Senate and is the former Director for the Centre for Advanced Study in Theoretical Psychology at the University of Alberta.

Dr. Margaret (Peggy) Patterson (Term: September 2, 2008 to September 1, 2011), is a professor of Higher Education Leadership at the University of Calgary, where she has also served as Chief Academic Officer and Associate Vice-President (Student Affairs). She is the founder and Director of the Canadian Centre for the Study of Higher Education and is a former member of the Alberta Council on Admissions and Transfer.   

Dr. Art Quinney (Term: July 13, 2009 to July 12, 2012), is a professor emeritus of the University of Alberta, former Chair of the Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies, and former Dean of Physical Education and Recreation.  He was Associate Vice-President (Academic) from 2000-2002 and Deputy Provost from 2002-2007.  Art is the Chair of the Board of Active Healthy Kids Canada and a member of the Board of Directors of ParticipAction.

Dr. Cliff Soper (Term: July 2, 2007 to July 1, 2010), is a retired chemistry instructor and administrator at Red Deer College. He has also served as Dean of Health and Science, acting Vice President (Academic) and Director of the IKON Learning Innovation and Teaching Excellence Centre.  

Dr. Mo Watanabe (Term: July 2, 2007 to July 1, 2010), is Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Calgary, former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and a former chair of several provincial and national health and research committees.
